FAQ

Do you have any spaces available in the pre-school or nursery?
Aardvark is a very popular pre school within the Hornchurch and Harold Wood area. We are currently taking names for September 2014  and September 2015.  However, some spaces do come up throughout the year from time to time so please call and enquire.


Do you offer free places for 3 and 4 year olds?
Yes.  Since we first began we have worked closely with the London Borough of Havering and fully support the Early Education Entitlement (EEE funding) – up to 15 hours per week per child.  In addition, Aardvark participates in the local authority 2 year old offer  which may enable you to claim 15 hours of funding for your younger child.


Is there a uniform and where can I get it?
At Aardvark we believe the presence of a uniform has a number of benefits including preparation for school, provides a visual clue of where the child is going, visual sense of belonging and in addition protect regular clothes because if your child comes to Aardvark they will get messy!  Our uniform can be purchased from the uniform van that parks outside The R J Mitchell School every 2nd Wednesday of the month.  

What are the qualifications of the staff?
The owners, managers and staff of Aardvark Pre School and Nursery include a qualified teacher, National Nursery Education Board (NNEB) qualifications, early years education degrees, NVQ Level 3, NVQ Level 2 , paediatric first aid, health & hygiene qualifications, speech & language training and many other on going professional development training.


When is the nursery or pre school open?
Aardvark Pre School at R J Mitchell Primary School is open from 09:00  a.m. – 3:00 p.m. term time only.
Aardvark Pre School and Nursery at Harold Court is open from 08:00 - 6:00p.m. five days a week, 48 weeks of the year.


How many staff will there be and what is the staff/child ratio?
The statutory requirement for staff/child ratios are as follows;
Under 2                 1 staff member to every 3 children
2 – 3 years of age    1 staff member to every 4 children
3 – 5 years of age    1 staff member to every 8 children
At Aardvark it is our aim to always provide more than the statutory requirement.

What activities will my child be accessing?
Here at Aardvark we pride ourselves on the creative and imaginative learning environment we provide.  In addition to the broad and balanced curriculum, which gives each individual child opportunities to extend their skills by learning through play, the children explore and engage in activities that will challenge and extend their learning,  build motivation and give opportunities for critical thinking.  Some of the activities include;
Music, ICT, puppets, paint, sand, water, role-play, construction, mark making, cooking, small world figures, counting and mathemaical development, physical development with a range of outside opportunities and the development of self help independence skills.   We always try to incorporate each individual child’s particular interest in everything we plan and enhance at every

Do you provide snack at Aardvark?
Here at Aardvark we provide a range of healthy snacks including; fruit, vegetables and savoury options.  Throughout the year we take the opportunity to celebrate festivals from around the world by trying some of the traditional dishes from a variety of cultures.  The children take part in preparing the table, plates, cups and cutlery.  They all take turns in serving their friends and sharing out what they have.  They particularly enjoy going to the shops to purchase the childrens choices and ideas!
